Trumpeter Swans make an annual pilgrimage to Lake Magness, near Heber Springs, in North Central Arkansas. These beautiful swans don't normally migrate this far south – I guess they tolerate the cold pretty well.
The story says that a storm front pushed them further south than usual, some years ago, and once they found Lake Magness they've been returning year after year. Whatever the reason, I'm happy to see them! I think they're absolutely beautiful animals, and are so fun to watch.
Lake Magness is a very easy drive from Fairfield Bay, and would made a great day trip from Little Rock.
